Experience Summary

Natasha Hewlett (Pearson) graduated from the University of Wollongong with a Bachelor of Law, a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice and Bachelor of Teaching (Primary). Natasha is admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of New South Wales and of the High Court of Australia.

Natasha is a Partner and the head of our Family Law team. Natasha commenced working as a solicitor at Maguire & McInerney Lawyers in January 2010 and became our first female Partner in 2017. Natasha has extensive experience and expertise in the areas of Family Law and Insurance Litigation.

Family Law

Natasha has over 10 years experience in Family Law and understands both the financial and emotional impact a relationship breakdown can have on her clients and their families. Natasha is committed to achieving cost effective solutions and the best possible outcomes for her clients in the areas of Divorce, Parenting, Property, Spousal Support and De Facto Matters.

Natasha has experience in complex property matters that involve business structures and trusts and complex parenting disputes involving domestic violence and drug and alcohol abuse. Natasha is sensitive to the needs of clients that have experienced domestic violence. Natasha regularly appears in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, District Court and Local Court.

In 2013 Natasha successfully completed the National Training Program for Independent Children’s Lawyers and was appointed to the panel of Independent Children’s Lawyers. As an Independent Children’s Lawyer Natasha is appointed to act on behalf of children in family law disputes that involve high conflict, domestic violence, drug and alcohol abuse. Natasha has also been appointed to the Family Law Legal Aid Panel.

Insurance Litigation

In this area of practice, Natasha predominantly acts on behalf of plaintiffs in the area of insurance litigation, however, prior to joining the team at Maguire & McInerney Natasha was involved in defending public liability claims for one of the major banks and several insurance companies.

Natasha is committed to obtaining the best possible outcomes for her clients and providing advice to clients that is simple and easy to understand.

Community Focus

Natasha is passionate about assisting the community. Natasha was previously a committee member for the Illawarra Women’s Lawyers Association of New South Wales. In 2017 Natasha participated in Stars of Wollongong Dance for Cancer raising $8,000 for the Cancer Council. Natasha previously served on the Board of Members for Breast Aware Australia.

In her spare time Natasha enjoys spending time with her young family. Natasha is a basketball fan and having grown up in the Illawarra is an Illawarra Hawks supporter regularly attending games.
